Painting as a Spiritual Practice

Join Dutch master artist, Pieter Weltevrede as he teaches this traditional Indian technique of sacred painting. For two days Pieter will guide students in the healing and centering power of yantra painting with mantra (purifying sound).
You will learn how to make a yantra and will learn a mantra that accompanies the yantra you choose.
Yantra is perhaps the strongest spiritual tool of sacred painting and is relatively easy to make.

Benefits are
to calm and focus your mind
to balance the right and left hemispheres of your brain
to cultivate a personal meditation practice.
These practices cultivate harmony within the mind, which in turn helps build harmony within the home.

All levels of experience welcome.  We will have something for everyone to learn.

One does not need to be a painter, only a spiritual practitioner seeking the Divine.

Painting as a Spiritual
Practice
Join Dutch master artist, Pieter Weltevrede, for this rare opportunity to
1.   Learn the Indian water color painting technique as a private student
OR
2. Paint your own yantra from beginning to end in one weekend.

Learn the centering power of yantra and mantra over two days.

The yantra is perhaps the strongest spiritual tool of sacred painting and is relatively easy to make.

Calm and focus your mind

Harmonize your brain's hemispheres

Cultivate a personal meditation practice with this sacred art form

You do NOT need to be an artist or painter to attend this workshop.  The yantra is drawn with pencil, guided by your teacher, and then you paint straight lines with specific colors.  Your teacher also directs and helps you with the paint colors and basic painting technique.  Anyone can paint yantra, if there is a desire to learn.
This is a great opportunity to learn from a teacher how to create a yantra or learn the wash technique. Yantra colors cannot be learned from a book; it requires a trained teacher.

This is a rare occasion and an intimate setting with only 10 students maximum over the weekend.

The immersion group will be limited to 5 students in a exquisite North West setting at a yoga studio in the woods. The last two days, the immersion students will be joined by 5 more yantra students over the weekend at the same location.

Immersion Study group  4 days to 5 days Contact Kathleen if you are interested in the Immersion.       This group can learn the Indian Wash technique. No fewer than 4 days can be allowed to truly learn the wash technique.

Yantra group 2 days with Pieter
There will be ONE (1) work-study position in the annual workshop each year.
The work- study position allows you to have a reduced fee in exchange for a set number of hours of help with the workshop for the entire 4 days.  Tasks include helping prepare meals with Jennifer Fish (and learn Harish Johari recipes too), making chai many times per day, sweeping & cleaning before, during and after the workshop.  You will only be able to paint half the time, and can paint in the evening and early morning each day.
This work-study positon takes dedication and integrity.
Please apply with Kathleen Whalen if you are interested.

See what advanced artists are saying about Pieter's work:
"A few years ago, I was honored to attend a showing of sacred paintings by master teacher, Pieter Weltevrede.  The beauty of his stunning use of color and exquiste attention to detail took by breath away!

Pieter has mastered a long and ancient tradition of Indian sacred painting, capturing the essence of Hindu gods and goddesses with such remarkable clarity that the images shimmer with life. As an artist working in the media of watercolor and painting on silk, I was so inspired!  I had to learn from Pieter and was lucky enough to paint with him the following day.  Under Pieter's expertise, I learned how to add layers of soft, luminous washes of watercolor overlaid with gouache so the effect is glowing, sensuous and 3-dimensional. Thanks to Pieter's masterful guidance, I have expanded the range of the effects I can attain with this painting technique many times over."
